The Belvidere Family YMCA successfully held it’s first Triathlon on Sunday, May 30th. The forty-nine participants made up of men, women and teams had to complete a ¼ mile swim, a 5-mile bike ride and a 2.75 mile run thru the Belvidere Park. The ¼ mile swim involved swimming 18 lengths in the YMCA pool. The participants then had a transition station used to dress for the bike ride. The biking portion of the event was completed on our spinning bikes in the YMCA social room. After the 5 mile ride the triathlete then took off on his journey to the park and back. The overall winner was Jorge Herrera with a time of 41:48. The top female finisher was Karah Osterberg with a time of 46:38. The top team to finish was Team Morris (Jordyn, Clif, and Ilaina) with a time of 45:02. The YMCA would like to thank it’s sponsors The DataCenter and Hot Heads along with Culligan, Sullivan’s and Pacemaker for donations of water and fruit. Last but not least the many, many volunteers who helped out including families of participants, YMCA employees and the cheer team from Belvidere North High School. Without the many volunteers this event would not be nearly as successful as it was.
